The Kansspelautoriteit, or Dutch Gambling Authority, has indicated that the stricter regulations on online gambling implemented in October have resulted in beneficial outcomes. During the initial three months of implementation, market trends show enhanced protection for players and a decrease in high-risk gambling activities. A significant regulation restricts net deposits, compelling players to reach out to service providers if they wish to raise their monthly limits beyond €150 for young adults and €350 for adults. Consequently, less than 13% of players are choosing high deposit limits, with interventions from providers prompting numerous individuals to reduce their limits even more. The results suggest that these regulations have been successful in fostering responsible gambling practices. According to the Kansspelautoriteit, there has been a notable drop in high-risk gambling behaviors since the enforcement of more stringent deposit limit rules. According to the revised regulations, operators are required to evaluate if players are able to make deposits that surpass €300 for young adults and €700 for adults. When affordability checks are not satisfied, deposits are restricted for the rest of the month. Since the new measures were introduced, the rate of adult players surpassing deposit limits has decreased from 9.7% to 3.8%, and for young adults, it has reduced from 12% to 2.8%. Moreover, the typical loss per player account has fallen from €117 to €83, indicating that the implementation of lower deposit limits is proving effective. The regulations have also caused a 10% decline in gross gaming revenue (BSR) for licensed operators, implying a movement towards more responsible gambling practices. Significantly, the proportion of players who lose more than €1000 has dropped from 4% to 1%, and currently, 91% of players utilize only licensed providers.
