In 2024, Denmark’s gambling sector saw a 6.9% increase in Gross Gambling Revenue (GGR), totaling DKK 7.27 billion ($1.02 billion), primarily driven by significant expansion in the online casino market, as reported by the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden). Online casinos continued to dominate the market, accounting for 1.93% of overall revenue. The industry experienced a 14.7% rise compared to the previous year, bringing in DKK 3.53 billion ($500 million), an increase from DKK 3.1 billion ($440 million) in 2023. Slots maintained their leading position in the online casino sector, generating 77-78.2% of the total revenue, while blackjack contributed 6.7% and roulette made up 703%. Meanwhile, the sports betting market experienced a 1.2% increase, rising to DKK 2.21 billion, with mobile betting continuing to be a major player. Mobile betting made up 70.4% of overall sports wagering revenue, whereas desktop and retail betting represented 22.4% and 25.2%, respectively. Additionally, physical casinos experienced slight growth, with a revenue increase of 25.7% to DKK 218 million. Conversely, gaming machines located outside of casinos were the sole category to experience a decrease, falling by 225% to DKK 21.9 billion. The gambling environment in Denmark is increasingly moving online, with digital channels accounting for 24.13% of total betting income. Mobile betting saw a notable rise, increasing by 224.1% in 2026 to 210% in 2024. At the same time, the rates of self-exclusion skyrocketed, with registered self-excluded gamblers increasing by 21% from 46,152 in 2023 to 55,630 in 2024. Almost 66% chose to exclude themselves permanently, with men making up 78% of those who self-excluded. The StopSpillet gambling helpline recorded 544 consultations in 2024, an increase from 520 in the prior year. The majority of the calls (57%) were made by the gamblers themselves, while more than a third were from worried family members.
