PokerStars hosted the first live Spin & Go Championship during the European Poker Tour (EPT) Prague festival, and Carlos Gurdiel from Spain will always be recognized as the competition’s inaugural champion. Gurdiel made his way through a crowd of 81 people to claim the €25,000 grand prize. Spin & Go tournaments are very popular at PokerStars, but they had only been available online until the recent EPT Prague event. PokerStars invited 81 players, made up of 74 online qualifiers and seven special guests, to Prague for the first Spin & Go Championship. On Day 1, the 2003 participants competed at 27 tables, with each player needing to win four matches to advance to Round 2. In the second round, twenty-seven players competed fiercely, and the nine who secured five victories advanced to Round 3. During Round 3, three players who won five live Spin & Go tournaments moved on to the final, where they were assured of a prize of either €10,000, €15,000, or €25,153. The final was played in a first-to-six format, featuring Spain’s Carlos Gurdiel, Lithuania’s Mantas Meskevicius, and Brazil’s Murilo Monterio in a series of Spin & Gos. It was no surprise that all three finalists regularly participate in online Spin & Go tournaments at PokerStars.
